What started out as an extravagant birthday event for a 1-year-old, turned into a (good) cause for celebration! As any first-time mother would, I originally wanted to have a big party at a condominium's function room and invite friends and relatives over to celebrate Gordon's first birthday. However, I really wanted to do something to give back to the community and I didn't have much people to invite. Thus, after much deliberation and planning, it turned into "A Cause for Celebration"!
A Cause for Celebration 2017 is an event to celebrate the birthdays of people born in September, who come from needy/low-income/single-parent families and are unable to afford celebrating due to financial constraints.
BEHIND THE SCENES
Of course, I wouldn't be able to do this event without the help of kind sponsors and volunteers. From the booking of the venue to the large birthday cake, I was fortunate enough to have so many kind sponsors willing to chip in to help these families out.
A shoutout to all of these kind sponsors:
- Sandra (booking fee for venue)
- Lendor (rental of tables and chairs)
- Christine, Linda & Jie Ying (disposable cutlery)
- Picco Enterprise (bottled mineral water)
- Fazly (canned drinks)
- Free Food for All & Mdm Ogy (food for buffet)
- Noorashekeen (chocolate nutella sheet cake)
- Aqilah & Rebecca (courier fees)
Birthday parties usually have door gifts for the guests who come to give their blessings, I've prepared goodie bags for the families who came for the event. Once again, everything was sponsored by Muslim home bakers as most of the families are Malays.
A shoutout to the following sponsors for the goodie bags:
- Jie Ying (paper bags)
- CrisCelia (stationery sets)
- Ade & Joan (NTUC vouchers)
- Molly Meringues (meringues)
- Reen (nutella blossoms)
- Whipped Love (kaya jars)
- Souled Out Bakes (cookies)
A CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION 2017
I was too busy running around to be taking photos with the families (also due to privacy issues) or about the event, so these are just some shots taken by the representative from Lendor who came down to help out! I invited a total of 21 families but only 7 were able to make it to the event. Nevertheless, the families enjoyed themselves and the kids had fun!
Another shoutout to Eileen, Nitu, Gwen and her friend for dropping by to help out, really appreciate you guys taking the time off from a Saturday to volunteer :) All remaining items from the sponsorship has been re-blessed after the event - disposable cutlery and drinks were used for Foster Week, stationery sets were given to village kids in Batam, leftover food were given to a neighbourhood cleaner and his dormmates while the extra sets of NTUC vouchers were mailed to families who couldn't make it for the event due to last-minute family matters.

Many thanks to Molly Meringues for accommodating my last-minute request for the sponsorship of their meringues! They were in bite-size pieces and packed into beautiful containers (refer to image above), and the meringues were not overly sweet :)

Many thanks to Reen for helping with the nutella blossoms despite having a busy schedule! There was a generous amount of nutella filling and really delicious. No, I didn't steal from the pile - there were extras after I packed them into small goodie packs so I devoured them :X
Shoutout to Souled Out Bakes for being so understanding throughout the whole process and providing more cookies than discussed! These cookies are better than Famous Amos cookies, I'm not kidding :O If you love cookies/are a cookie monster like me, you better place your orders soon!
Pretty little jars filled with kaya from Whipped Love! They have a variety of mini door gifts for all occasions, just drop them a message and I guarantee that you'd be satisfied ;) Thank you for accommodating to my requests and packing the jars so beautifully!
